And I Matter

I would like to die

kissing my other half

and after annihilation

leave behind

the spectrum of radiation—

trajectories

on a velvet night.

I am mass and I am energy

and I am pain and I am joy;

I am the cascade of neurons,

a dance of light.

I matter while I’m living,

and I matter after ceasing.

Though I leave no speck of soul,

mere trajectories,

maybe a black hole of a heart,

certainly all this chatter,

and I’ll matter til I won’t.
